Microsoft – Word Processing
Using Tabs
Setting Tabs

Directions:

   1.    Open the document setting tabs. (You should find a link to it below.) Download the file. It is a word document. Use these directions to edit and save it.

   2.    Place the insertion cursor in front of the title, Different Types of Tabs & What They Do. Touch return 2 times.

   3.    Now type a heading. Your heading should include your name, first and last, the date and the period.  The entire heading should be right justified. (Align Text Right)

   4.    Save your document as Period# Last First Tabs (Example:  2 Last First Tabs)

   5.    Click on the formatting palette > Document.  Set the left and right margins to 1 inch.

   6.    Select the Title: “Different Types of Tabs & What They Do.” Choose center alignment. Set the font to Arial Black and set the size to 18.

   7.    Select all the text under Different Types of Tabs & What They Do (highlight it.)

   8.    HINT: To do this right, all the information needs to stay highlighted until you are done setting all the tabs. As you do all the steps, the information will start to look funny. DO NOT worry until you are all done.

   9.    Click on the ruler to set tabs at 1½, 3, 4½, and 5½ inches. Click on the tabs icon at the upper left of your document and choose “Tabs…” You could also double click on any one of the tabs.

10.    In the tabs window, select each of the tabs, one at a time, and set them as follows:

Make the 1½ inch tab Left             Make the 4½ inch tab Right

Make the 3 inch tab Center           Make the 5½ inch tab Decimal

11.    Scroll down until “ My Schedule” is at the top line on the screen. Select “My Schedule” and choose center alignment. Set the font to Arial Black and set the size to 18.

12.    Highlight the text under the title “My Schedule.” Again this needs to stay highlighted until you are done setting all the tabs.

13.    Click on the ruler to set tabs at 1½, 2, 4, and 6 inches. Click on the tabs icon at the upper left of your document and choose “Tabs…” You could also double click on any one of the tabs.

14.    In the tabs window, select each of the tabs, one at a time, and set them as follows:

Make the 1½ inch tab Decimal      Make the 4 inch tab Left

Make the 2 inch tab Left                Make the 6 inch tab Decimal

15.    Turn on the invisibles to see your tab key strokes and location. You turn them on by clicking on the funny looking back words P in the task bar.

16.    Change the information on the schedule so that it reflects your actual Computech class schedule.

17.    When you finish this it should look like the picture below.
